Ladbrokes Poker Review
Summary
Ladbrokes Poker is one of the largest, if not the largest, European poker room. It has the luxury of being able to draw many players from its bookmaker and casino businesses and with such a well respected name can attract many others also. As a result, over eight thousand users can be found online at peak times despite none of the being from the US, Ladbrokes Poker having decided not to run the risk of accepting US players. This activity combined with the simple intuitive software, the security of such a well known brand and an extensive range of poker games and limits makes Ladbrokes Poker one of the best places at which to hone your skills. Furthermore, it is made even more attractive for low limit players as Ladbrokes Poker caps the rake it takes from low limit tables at $1.50 whereas many other poker rooms set the rake at $3.00 across the board.
Poker Games Available
Ladbrokes Poker offers an extensive range of games including Texas Holdem (no limit, pot limit and limit), Omaha, Omaha Hi Lo, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Stud and 5 Card Draw with both full and short hand tables. Texas Holdem fixed limit blinds range from $0.25/0.50 to $100/200 and no limit blinds range from $0.10/0.20 up to $200/400.
Ladbrokes Poker also offers sit n go and multi table tournaments for each poker game. Tournament fees stay constant at 10% of the buyin until above $50 when they begin to decrease as a proportion. There is a large number of freerolls, satellites and big money signature tournaments where you can win seats for televised tournaments.
Software
Ladbrokes Poker uses the same software as those poker rooms that are part of the Prima Poker Network, but despite the common misconception it is a stand-alone site and does not share players with these other poker rooms.
The lobby at Ladbrokes Poker is well designed and reflects the general ambience of the site. It is easy to use and players can view in order to select a table the number of players waiting, the percentage of players seeing the flop, the average hands per hour (a stat which many poker rooms have removed) and the average pot size. This allows you to really single in on the game that’s suitable for you.
The table view is top down and doesn’t bother with any avatars or player images. Instead, the only information that is displayed about a player is their name and location. Nevertheless, you can make individual player notes so if you should happen to notice a tell or habit you can take advantage of knowing it should you come across that player in the future.
At the table you can view your current player stats, which offers more stats than most, for example, the percentage of times your fold, call, raise, etc. You can also view recent hand histories. Ladbrokes Poker is compatible with poker stats software such as Poker Tracker that will give you even more detailed analysis should you desire it.
One unique feature is the ability to vary the size of the poker tables. The small setting works extremely well for those who prefer playing on multiple tables, whereas the bigger setting is useful for those with failing eyesight or those on the end of a twelve hour session!
A relatively recent addition to the software is the add-on side games including Three Card Poker, European Roulette Gold and Multi-hand Blackjack. Whilst these can add a bit of excitement they are probably well left alone if you’re a serious poker player who keeps an eye on the bottom line.
Loyalty Programs
Ladbrokes gives you Player Points as you compete in cash games. You are awarded 25 player points for every $1 raked in fixed limit games and 20 player points for every $1 raked in no limit games. At this time (January 10 2007) no player points are award for playing in single table or multi table tournaments. Every month you can do different things with your player points, for example, enter freerolls or receive cashback (some of your rake). At the end of the month the player points are reset and new incentives are advertised on the Ladbrokes Poker website for the following month.
